Day 3 - City on a Hill

See this content in the original post

We all have days where we just want to hide under the covers.

Even as the light filters through, brightening the room, it feels safer to stay under the sheets, in the comfort of the darkness.

Hands up, who has had one of these days (or weeks!) in the last couple of months?

Lockdown fatigue has well and truly set in. It's draining, dealing with the corona-coaster of emotions, uncertainty and overwhelm.

The saviour of the world has given us clear instructions that we are to be a bold, bright beam, reflecting the dazzling beauty of His glory.

It's our mission, directly given by Jesus, to shine our light. To be a city on a hill, showing others the way.

But what about those days when we just don't feel very shiny?

What happens when we’re continually faced with darkness; seemingly surrounded by the bleak ruins of destruction and loss? Not able to fan the flame of our own spark, let alone blaze heaven’s glory from the hill-tops?

I’ve got good news, little star.

You were never meant to shine in your own strength.

Our personal power supply willneverbe enough to fully cast out the darkness.

That's why we must plug-in to the one, true Source in order to beam brightly to the world around us.

It’s connected to the Light of the World Himself where we’re filled up: fully charged, ready to sparkle and shine.

Wake up sleeper! Don’t fall back under the covers of cosy comfort and subdued surroundings. Turn away from the faded feelings of indifference and detachment.

Plug in to Jesus and charge up.

You are a city on a hill. You are called to spread the news, to tell the world the simple truth. “Jesus loves you”. For that truth to be transformational it needs to transform you first.

Connecting to Jesus changes you. His Word revives and restores, His goodness overwhelms and awes. His presence is the only place we find true rest and fresh resolve.

To break out from under the covers and illuminate the dark, you are gonna need a whole lot of charging.

It isn't comfortable to open your eyes and let in the light. It takes discipline to decide to get up and keep going, even when you don't feel like it.

There's a hilltop that needs lighting up and it's got your name on it. An area of influence is waiting for you to show up and show others the way.

Will you stand up and shine?

Let's Pray

Jesus,

I don't always feel ready to step out and shine for your glory here on earth. Charge me up with a Spirit of power, love and self-control as I seek to radiate who you are. Lead me to the hilltop you have prepared for me. I ask for an overwhelming sense of your hope, joy and peace today. Fill me with the courage to stand firm in the dark places, boldly blazing your brilliance.

Amen

What's Next?

How good are you at managing your charging time? Do you top up as and when, or are you a ‘plug me in ‘til I’m full’ kind of girl?

Sometimes we can confuse legalism with discipline. Don’t! It's important not to get the two confused.

Daily connection with God is vital. However it happens, whenever it happens, work out a routine and rhythm that works for you.

Print out today's worksheet, press 'play' on the Salt + Light playlist and take some time to make a plan to plug in to Jesus and recharge your light every day.

It will look different in different seasons of life but there’s always a way!
