Day 1 - Salt of the Earth
Day 1: Salt of the Earth
"My grace is enough."
2 Corinthians 12:9
Set Alight to Lovingly Transform
That’s what being salt is.
When Jesus brings us to life, we’re called into a divine mission; to bring His love and light to those on earth who have yet to encounter God and His goodness.
Jesus’ mandate to us is that we would be set apart, to positively impact the world around us, highlighting the God-flavours of the earth.
His desire is that we see with the eyes of the Father. To feel the same compassion He does towards those who are hurtling towards an eternity without Him.
It’s not just about knowing who we are in Him, but also seeing others as He sees them: made in His image.
Salt is used for more than just cooking. It's also used in textiles for colour development.
The quantity of salt added to the process determines the vibrancy of colour that is absorbed.
Not only is Jesus inviting us to bring flavour to life around us by adding depth and seasoning.
He is also challenging us to rally a rainbow amidst the grey, muted tones of the darkness.
Kingdom Values
You know the areas in your own life I'm talking about: a challenging work situation, annoying neighbours, difficult family members...
that enhances the world around me.
So does God really expect us to add His flavours in those areas? Oh, yes indeedy! And He's given us everything we need in order to do so. Living purposefully, intent on loving people where they are at, means keeping in tune with the Holy Spirit.
As we head into the shadows we can be sure that with Jesus calling us we can deliberately act to add value; Kingdom values. With each step, each word, each action we can spread love, joy, hope and peace.
With a burst of colour you can intentionally bring the Kingdom of God. You can speak hope where there is despair. You can pray for healing in the middle of pain. You can serve those who have been forgotten.
God has deliberately placed you where He wants you.
You have been transformed by His love. And where there is love there will always be hope.
Just as salt adds flavour and colour, Jesus calls you to bring love and hope wherever you go.
Let's Pray
Thank you Jesus that you have set me alight to lovingly transform the world around me. Thank you that you give life and that you ARE love. Help me, by your Holy Spirit, to share that light and love with those I meet. Empower me to bring positive change wherever I go.
Amen
What's Next?
Have you ever eaten a really salty meal? It’s always takeaway pizza for me. I need to drink what feels like 10 pints of water to quench my thirst!
I don’t think it’s any coincidence that to accompany the salty flavour we need to have a lot of water.
And who do we know is the fountain of life, the living stream of living water? Jesus! He quenches our thirst and gives us all we need, as we step out to impact the world.
