Leave a Little Stardust

It’s hard to escape light. Literally and metaphorically.

When people are stuck in a cave what’s the first thing they look for? When you need to wake up in the morning, what’s the first thing you do? At Christmas time, what do most people do to their houses? LIGHT!

Light is the thing that invades all these situations. It guides and leads. It captures and awakens. It impacts and declares.

God keeps Speaking

We talk a lot about light here on the blog and in our devotionals.

God just keeps on confirming it as something we should continually press into.

There’s no denying it’s a huge theme throughout the bible either - God’s revelation light in Jesus is the big picture of the whole story.

As Christmas approaches, we get to embrace the truth of the transforming nature of God’s light; Jesus Light of the world.

He stepped down into darkness, announced by an illumination that would rival any big city’s New Year’s Eve firework display.

Always Switched On

You see the thing about Jesus’ light is that He shone wherever He went.

He wasn’t fearful about stepping into gloomy situations. Wasn’t concerned that His light might fall prey to the dimmer switch. I doubt He worried about needing to buff His shine after eating with sinners.

His glory shone in brilliance regardless of the situation He was in.

If we’re topped up with His glorious beams then we can’t help but reflect His glory to the world around us.

How often do you worry about the strength of your shine?

Those niggling questions and doubts.

What if I said something wrong?

What if, in my human impatience, I wasn’t as kind as I ought to have been?

What if I become too much ‘of’ the world by spending time with people who don’t yet know Him?

Shedding my Sparkle

Recently I treated myself to a new thermal top - I know, #rockstarliving!

I love layers to keep me warm and this one jumped right out to me whilst I was in the supermarket (anyone else just find that clothes somehow fall into their trolly?).

Aaaaanyway, I digress!

This top isn’t just any ordinary plain black t-shirt.

It actually has gold sparkles all over it because, well, why not wear something pretty even if no one’s going to see it, right?!

As well as being practical, it also reminds me that I too sparkle with God’s light every single day.

The thing is though, that I keep finding small specks of gold glitter over the house.

Initially confused about where they were coming from I realised, seeing one glisten on my husband’s face one day, that I seemed to be shedding my sparkle.

Without my knowledge and with no intention I’ve been leaving stardust everywhere I go.

Glitter Up Girl!

That is exactly how it’s supposed to be.

Our spirits’ so full of the Holy Spirit that we don’t even know when we spill over.

So full of God’s loving light that we leave deposits wherever we go.

If we’re topped up with His glorious beams then we can’t help but reflect His glory to the world around us.

Leave a little stardust wherever you go by being who God made you to be.

We took a deeper look at living as Salt + Light, in our 5 day devotional, and I don’t think this theme is going away soon.

Whilst the world is still facing uncertainty and division it’s more important than ever for us to keep beaming.

The encouragement to you today is that you don’t have to do anything out of the ordinary or over the top special.

Just be yourself. Be who God made you to be.

Spend time in His presence, soak up His dazzling love and I’m certain that beaming His beauty will be second nature to you.

So what are you waiting for? Glitter up girl, and be prepared to leave a little stardust wherever you go!
